This week I am going to talk about some of the “They say” and ‘I heard” myths that need to be buried.
Number Five: Low Intensity Cardio is the best way to burn fat.
This one is based on a misinterpretation of some research that showed the during exercise a greater percentage of calories were burned from fat at lower intensities. So if a bigger percentage comes from fat, then that is the best intensity level for losing unwanted bodyfat, right?
Not so fast. Let’s apply a little math to the situation. If you burn 200 calories in a 30 minute low intensity workout session and 300 calories in a higher intensity session (that may not last as long, but that is another discussion), which one has the best OVERALL effect on your fat-burning efforts, regadrdless of percentages?
If you think about it simply, then harder work is….well, harder. By definition that means morre calories burned and a greater training effect.
Higher intenity means the same amount (or more) work done in less time, for a better result.
Say no to the treadmill. Say yes to kettlebell swings.
